Will the dead walk again in July?

Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad, said this in passing:

“It was a decision from AMC that they wanted to position us in July, along with Mad Men. And I believe they’re going to put Walking Dead in July as well. I think it’s just a sensible thing — they want to attract as many eyeballs as possible, away from the heavy competition of the September, November, January start.”

Interesting, but Halloween as the launch for Dead season 2 makes more sense to me. I guess we’ll find out.

If you don’t already own a digital copy of season 1 look for it on Blu-ray and DVD in March.

Did Jennifer’s Body wet your taste for Amanda Seyfried? If it did you will probably want to check out Red Riding Hood when it hits the big screen on March 11. Lots of buzz about this horrific version of the fairy tale, but come on, gang — Red Riding Hood was always a werewolf story.

Duchovny says he’s down with another X-Files flick

Superstar deadpan actor and X-Files star David Duchovny told the Shobiz Spy website that he’d like to continue searching for the truth. Sounds like a trial balloon to me.

He also says he’d go gay for the stars of Twilight. Looks like that sex addiction treatment didn’t take.

Review: The Vampire’s Ghost

Equitorial Africa, 1945, not exactly the spot where you would expect to see a vampire story, but that is the setting of The Vampire’s Ghost.

Republic Pictures was a small studio that specialized in Westerns, Adventure serials and other low budget fare for the movie houses of the 1940s. I can’t remember ever seeing any horror films from Republic, but if we can judge from The Vampire’s Ghost, that’s too bad, because The Vampire’s Ghost is a pretty decent little vampire flick. Like most Republic films, it’s short, meant to fill the second spot of a double feature. Leigh Brackett, a well respected science fiction writer, penned the script. The story seems to be based on John Polidori’s short story, “The Vampyre,” although that story is not credited as the source.

The vampire is well played by John Abbott, a veteran Shakespearean actor. Abbott’s vampire abandons the tropes of the typical movie vampire he is able to move about freely during the day, though bright sunlight bothers his eyes. The vampire is world weary and self-pitying, but not at all sympathetic as he toys with his victims. The only time this monster seems to come alive is when he is about to commit some terrible cruelty.

The rest of the cast is so-so with the exception of Adele Mara who plays the gypsy dancer, Lisa. Mara is gorgeous and she gives a solid performance in her small part.

Check The Vampire’s Ghost on Netflix Watch Instantly. This is head and shoulders above any of the Twilight flicks.

Countess Dracula is gone

The beautiful Ingrid Pitt, who played a sexy vampire for Hammer in the 1970s has passed away. Miss Pitt starred in The Vampire Lovers and Countess Dracula as the villain and was well loved by Hammer fans. Ms Pitt was born in Poland in 1937 and passed away today in a London Hospital. She was 73 years old.

Dracula returns to the stage

Fearnet reports that Dracula is headed back to the New York stage. Looks like the Count is going off Broadway this time around. Still, it’s cool to see a return of a classic play.
